WHAT IS TRAUMA ( Fecor )
( I named trauma as fecor. I named something
that makes trauma active as fecos. )
$0 Abstraction
Trauma (fecor ) is a kind of fear reaction
but not an injure in the brain. Trauma induces
extraordinarily strong fear. People cannot
recognize what causes the fear, when people
feel fear and whether people can intentionally
avoid it. It is true that the cause of tens
fear cannot be determined, but we actually
do know what kind of situation makes traumatized
people feel extraordinarily strong fear.
From my observation to traumatized people,
I concluded that trauma is the fear conditional
reflex and stimulus of the fear exists around
us but only affects the traumatized person.
Only traumatized person is always affected
by it in his daily life.
Traumatized people are unable to avoid the
stimulus and are always exposed to the source
of fear. Traumatized person always feels
fear and shows fear reactions and at the
same time traumatized person acts violence
and shows many kinds of pathologic symptoms
of mental diseases. Trauma is a kind of memory
and the memory of the trauma is constantly
ingrained in the person's memory. Trauma
exists in neural networks in emotion and
its network is connected strongly. The neural
network of trauma cannot be erased as long
as the memory on trauma is reminded, in other
words as long as the neural network of trauma
is activated often.
We and even traumatized person believe that
traumatized person has a mental disease and
try to take drugs to treat mental diseases.
Drugs for treating mental diseases can decrease
the symptoms of trauma but cannot take out
completely symptoms of mental diseases. At
the same time drugs for treating mental diseases
are likely to take out the development of
neural networks in brain.
$1 Definition of Trauma ( fecor )
Trauma ( fecor ) induces extraordinary strong
fear without any causes in one's daily life.
This fear happens abruptly and can not be
controlled by one's own will. This fear is
very strong and makes one feel just like
one is going to die.
Up to now scientists can only find changes
in one's brain such as reactions caused by
fear but they cannot find any specific cause
of trauma. Because of this fact traumatized
patient can be diagnosed only by the sudden
onset of strong fear which we cannot find
any cause of.
There are two kinds of conditional reflex.
One is the conditional reflex discovered
by Pavlov which comes from the approaching
system of emotion in brain. The other is
the conditional reflex studied in detail
by Lu Doux, which comes from the avoidance
system of emotion in brain. This conditional
reflex from the avoidance system of emotion
always induces fear. Due to this fact, we
can name this conditional reflex as fear
conditional reflex ( fecor ). Trauma and
fecor have almost same meaning. Fecor has
a little different meaning from trauma. Fecor
is the idea from neuroscience and actually
exists as neural networks in brain. Trauma
is the idea from imagination,
So that you can give any explanations to
trauma. It is true that you are used to the
word trauma. In order to distinguish between
these two words I want to express like trauma
and trauma ( fecor ).
Both of these are used for raising and training
animals. Applying these conditional reflex to human adults is very difficult
because there are many factors to consider,
such as the factors of knowledge and consciousness.
These conditional reflexes are much easier
to apply to children compared to adults because
there are fewer factors to consider. From
the observation and treatment of children's
minds we can clearly understand the trauma
( fecor ).
$2 Fear Conditional Reflex ( fecor )
Fear conditional reflex ( fecor ) and generalized
fear conditional reflex satisfies enough
requirements to be categorized as TRAUMA. The fear conditional reflex ( fecor ) makes
people feel as if their situation is impossible
and their death is imminent. We can observe
the fear conditional stimulus ( fecos ) in
the traumatized patients, but any doctors
and psychologists do not recognize it as
fear conditional reflex ( fecor ) because
this fear conditional stimulus ( fecors )
is too commonly found in people's dailylives
to distinguish it as a fear stimulus. No
one except the patient feels fear, and only
traumatized patients feel fear from that
stimulus.
The fear conditional reflex ( fecor ) is
a kind of fear reaction that starts when
someone recognizes fear conditional stimulus
( fecos ) in one's emotion not in one's consciousness.
Fear conditional reflex ( fecor ) is an unconscious
reaction. The fear conditional reflex ( fecor
) exists subconscious area of emotion and
people cannot control this fear conditional
reflex ( focor ) consciously.
Researchers could not detect the origination
of psychic trauma. In most of these cases,
patients were aware of the onset of their
symptoms, and they understood the circumstance
in which their symptoms typically appeared.
We must illustrate in those circumstances
what is the fear conditional stimulus ( fecos
) and where the fear conditional stimulus
( fecos ) exists. Patients simply believe
that their trauma have specific onset of
symptoms and their symptoms just appear in
certain specific circumstance.
$3 What is fear reflex
We contact consciously or unconsciously with
many things which exist around us. The contact
with things is called stimulus. We receive
these stimuli through sensational organs
like eyes, ears, tongue and skin. Most of
the information from the sensational organs
go up to brain. Dealing with this information
brain makes new information and send them
to any parts of our body to make the reaction
toward these stimuli. This neural process
is called neural reaction or neural reflex.
We human can think of the stimulus using
words from our knowledge. After cons
idering about stimuli, we can act the result
from our consideration. This neural process
is called consciousness or intentional reaction.
We human can also react without any thinking.
This neural process is called unconsciousness
or unconscious reaction. Reflex and unconscious
reaction have almost same meanings. These
three reactions can be done at the same instance.
There are two kinds of neural reflex in our
brain. One is cortical reflex in new cortex
and the other is emotional reflex in old
cortex. Cortical reflex is originated from
new cortex of brain. Emotional reflex is
originated from old cortex or from emotion,
which is refer to feeling.
In emotion there are two reacting ways. They
are called approaching system and avoidance
system. There are two kinds of emotional
reflex. One is from approaching system which
is called joy reaction and the other is from
avoidance system which is called fear reaction.
There are two kinds of fear reaction. One
is the instinctive fear reaction ( pain,
too strong sense, hunger, thirsty, negation
of existence or solitary and frustration
) and the other is the acquired fear reaction
which does not belong to the instinctive
fear reaction.
There are two kinds of acquired fear reaction.
One is the fear reaction which children imitate
and get from that of their parents ( especially
from their mothers until the age of 3 or
4 years old ) and the other is fear reaction
due to fear conditional fear reflex ( fecor
). Acquired fear reflex mainly depends on
our culture.
Among adults we can change these acquired
fear reflexes and even instinctive reflexes(
both of approaching system and avoidance
system ) into no reflexes and even into joy
reflexes using our consciousness ( cognitive
therapy ). Among children we cannot change
fear reflex into no reflex. Children must
be protected from fear stimulus if children
cannot overcome that fear. If not, fear stimulus
is getting stronger and children will have
trauma or fecor ( cognitive therapy is not
effective for children ). Children will show
fear reaction to something which other people
don't feel fear ( traumatize ).
This fact doesn't mean children should avoid
fear stimulus. It is true if children overcome
fear by their own efforts, children come
to be able to tolerate fear and increase
their ability and knowledge which is necessary
to live in society. We need to protect children
only from the fear that they cannot overcome.
Trauma ( fecor ) is a kind of fear reflex
but the source of the fear ( fecos ) we cannot
recognize ( if we can realize the fear conditional
stimuli or fecoses, that fear conditional
reflex does not mean trauma or fecor but
simple fear reaction ). The traumatized people are always exposed
to the source of the fear ( fecos ) and they
always show somatic symptoms ( autonomic
nerve symptoms ), and they often act violently
and show many kinds of symptoms of mental
diseases.
$4 Symptoms of trauma ( fecor )
From our observation symptoms of trauma are
almost the same of that of fear reaction,
and adding to symptoms of fear reaction trauma
shows many kinds of symptoms of mental diseases.
We dare say there are many people who are
suffering from trauma but actually they are
treated as patients of certain unknown diseases.
For example, most of autonomic nerve diseases
come from trauma. Some of self-immune diseases
come from trauma, too. Most of mental diseases
come from trauma. From our observation there
is no mental disease among young people contrary
to medical knowledge.
Fear makes people show autonomic nerve symptoms
( almost all kinds of somatic symptoms ) and 4 levels of fear reaction.
4 levels of fear reaction are following
First level
If people feel fear, people get away from
fear stimulus ( flee from fear and common
reaction among the animals ). People can
express their fear using words.
Second level
If people cannot get away from fear stimulus,
people act in order to decrease the effects
of fear stimulus unconsciously from their
experience. Their action is preferable for
the person who gives fear to them ( Fair
action and this phenomenon is almost specific
reaction of human. Fair action is just like
the saying it is a case of pious fraud or circumstances may justify a lie).
Third level
If people cannot avoid fear stimulus and
cannot bear the state of fair action, people
act violently and destroy the source of fear
( fight against fear stimulus and this phenomenon
is common among animals ). To do something
unpleasant to someone is a kind of violence
to someone who gives fear to that person.
Forth level
If people cannot act violently from their
character or by the big power which is stronger
than their violence, people show many kinds
of mental diseases ( compatible to freezing
of animal ).
When people feel fear, they show somatic
symptoms and surely act one of these 4 levels
of fear reaction. When people act one of
these 4 levels of fear action, they feel
fear in their emotion. Therefore we can define
that the fear is the emotion that makes people
react one of these 4 levels of fear reaction
( definition of fear ).
Anxiety is one of the state where we feel fear but
we are not sure what the source of fear is.
We feel anxiety when we recognize something
which is the sign of fear ( fecos ). When we cannot avoid the fear
stimulus, we feel fear or anxiety. Actually
we feel anxiety when we act fair action,
act violently and show many kinds of symptoms
mental diseases.
Symptoms of trauma ( fecor ) we notice are
symptoms of mental diseases. Traumatized
people do not recognize what is their source
of fear ( fecos ) and they would not avoid
the source of their fear. They have chances
to come across the source of their fear.
When occationary come across the source of
their fear, trauma start reacting and they
show many kinds of pathologic symptoms. The
number of the source of their fear is still
limited.
PTSD is one of the traumas ( fecors ) which
is thought to be psychiatry disease. Chronic
PTSD is also one of the traumas of which
fear conditional stimulus is at the beginning
weak and repeating so that fear conditional
stimulus are getting stronger, and finally
becomes very strong fear conditional stimulus
( fecor ) and becomes strong fear conditional
reflex.
Psychic diseases of adults are also certain
kinds of trauma ( fecor ). Patients of psychic
disease are always reacting against certain
fear conditional stimuli which exist around
them and in their daily life or in their
memory. The networks of fear conditional
reflex in the brain are built strongly and
become very sensitive to fear conditional
stimuli. From these reasons fear conditional
reflex of the psychic disease is always reacting
and showing symptoms.
Most of mental diseases among adults come
from trauma which are diagnosed only from
the aspect of symptoms of them. Traumatized
people cannot flee from the source of fear
because of the social problems. They are
suffering from mental diseases for long (
their trauma is always reacting and the number
and species of the source of fear increases
) so that they become to react to many sources
of fear and their neural networks for fear
in their brain establish firmly and become
sensitive to the source of the fear.
We are likely to think for the people who
show many kinds of symptoms of fear or mental
diseases that we must eliminate these symptoms
of them to save them and try to do the best
for them. This coping methods let them feel stronger
fear and make their symptoms stronger than
before. Because they feel to be denied in their
emotion ( sub consciousness ). They want
to be accepted in their sub consciousness.
They simply express with their symptoms that
they are feeling fear against something and
they cannot avoid it. This emotional movement
happens in their sub consciousness. No one
and even themselve do not recognize this
fact, though. We usually express they are
in trouble in their mind. Contrary to common
sense we need to accept straight what they are.
$5 How to build up and how to get recovery
from Fear conditional reflex ( fecor )
If fear unconditional stimulus which produces
dreadful fear and indifferent stimulus which
does not produce fear or sometimes produces
joy exist at the same time in the same place,
this fear reaction changes this indifferent
stimulus into conditional stimulus with almost
the same fear reactions induced by unconditional
fear stimulus. In other words, if someone
runs across a certain accident which makes
you feel deadful fear, this fear makes you
feel dreadful fear by something which exists
around him at the same time and which at
that time he is mainly conscious about. After
this accident he becomes to feel dreadful
fear from that thing. Because he doesn't
think he feels fear from that thing ( newly
built conditional stimulus ), he doesn't
think he needs to run away from or take away
newly built conditional stimulus in spite
of feeling fear all the time.
This newly built conditional stimulus is
fear stimulus which makes him feel dreadful
fear. When he comes across this newly built
conditional stimulus, fear conditional reflex
starts to react. This means his trauma start
to react. While trauma is reacting, other
indifferent stimulus around him becomes second
newly built fear conditional stimulus. After
this that second newly built fear conditional
stimulus starts to make fear conditional
reflex react.
If you have trauma ( fecor ) you recognize
fear conditional stimulus ( fecos ) not in
consciousness but in your sub consciousness
and show fear and pathologic symptoms. You
are never conscious that this fear conditional
stimulus ( fecos ) makes you feel dreadful
fear and you have to get away from this fear
conditional stimulus ( fecos ). By repeating
this experiences this fear conditional reflex
comes to react stronger than before and at
the same time you learn other fear conditional
stimuli (fecoses ) which are different from
original fear conditional stimulus ( fecos
). Then you become to feel fear from many
things around you. This state of you is called
you have generalized fear conditional reflex
( fecor ). When people see you, people think
you feel fear all the time or as you show
many kinds of pathologic symptoms and you
have psychological or psychic disease.
The stronger fear unconditional stimulus
is or the stronger original fear conditional
stimulus is, the stronger learned fear conditional
reflex establishes and the stronger fear
reaction will be induced by learned conditional
stimulus. In other words, if you find a man
has trauma ( fecor ), you have to think that
he once felt dreadful fear or he felt repeating
fear and he became sensitive to fear stimulus
which any other people do not feel fear from.
Because of this reason many people think
he shows many kinds of symptoms of mental
diseases without any reasons and many people
think he is sick.
Recovery from trauma ( fecor ) means that
trauma ( fecor ) does not come to react againt
stimulus ( fecos ).
To make trauma ( fecor ) worse
$6 Phobia
Many people think phobia is different from
trauma. Both phobia and trauma have similar
onset, similar symptoms and give us similar
effect to our life. Phobia has clearer onset
of symptoms than trauma. We can convince
there is stronger relationship between onset
and phobia than that between onset and trauma.
Phobia is the fear conditional reflex whose
fear conditional stimulus is sometimes exist
around us and we can understand from our
experience why a person feels fear. We can
protect this person from fear stimulus if
we want to do.
$7 Self-denial and Self-affirmation
Self-denial induces different levels of fear
reaction in human's emotions. This neural
reaction is an instinctive fear reaction.
People who are suffering from many kinds
of symptoms of mental diseases are sensitive
to the stimulus of fear. They react strongly
from self-denial, on the other hand many
people scarcely react from self-denial. People
who are suffering from many kinds symptoms
of mental diseases do not recognize that
their self-denial ( i.e. they cannot accept
they are expressing many kinds of symptoms
of mental disease, or they try to recover
from these symptoms but in vein ) makes them
feel fear stronger than before. They do not
want to allow themselves to express symptoms
of mental diseases and they are apt to think
they are not worth of being alive now and
in future. This self-denial makes them feel
fear stronger than before.
Self-denial is not a trauma but a simple
instinctive fear reaction. Many people deny
other people easily. Many people don't think
the denial is not so bad. For people who
are denying themselves and showing symptoms
of mental diseases, self-denial makes them
feel strong fear. They don't recognize this
fact though. For them self-denial seems just
like trauma. To settle these problems self-denial
must be replaced with self-affirmation. Contrary
to common sense suppressing their violence
by power make them feel stronger fear, they
will act more violently afterwards. Contrary
to common sense cheering people who are suffering
from symptoms of mental diseases is to deny
them and leads to their self-denial. Their
symptoms become worse than before. I often
find many traumatized people are in the vicious
circle of a symptom and the self-denial.
To prevent this vicious circle we especially
their mother must accept anything they say,
anything they do and any symptoms they express.
We have to accept anything as they are.
So long as I have been observing and treating,
almost all mental diseases have come from
three reasons. One has come from the extended
fear conditional stimuli, second has come
from the vicious circle of symptoms and self-denial
and third is the fixation of symptoms due
to the strongly fixed neural network in brain.
$8 Rules for disabled mind and Rules for
capable mind
To understand the feeling of traumatized
people, we must know about the approaching
system and the avoidance system in emotion.
We can express our feeling ( emotion ) with
many words. In neuroscience emotions among
animals are same. We call the effect from
approaching system joy, and the effect from
avoidance system fear.
The effect of both systems are opposite to
each other. If both systems come to act at the same time,
the effects of both systems weaken each other.
This fact means joy and fear erase each other.
If joy is stronger than fear, we feel joy
that is weakened. If fear is stronger than
joy, we feel fear that is weakened.
If both systems react one after another for
a short time, the effect of later system
decreases the effect of former system. If
we feel joy and next for a short time we
feel fear, at first we feel joy and next
we feel fear. But fear we feel becomes weaker
than we expect to be. If we feel fear and
next for a short time we feel joy, at first
we feel fear and next we feel fear which
is weakened or we feel joy. But this time
joy we feel is weaker than we expect to be.
This fact means we can erase or decrease
fear with joy. If people are really enjoying
their daily life, they do not act in bad
ways, they do not act violently and they
do not show pathologic symptoms of mental
diseases. If a person acts violently or shows
pathologic symptoms of mental diseases, this
fact means that this person often feels fear
and does not feel joy. The best way to solve
the problems of this person is to let this
person have a lot of experiences that makes
this person really feels happy. If we give
this person experiences which are supposed
to be enjoyable for him, this person often
pretends to be happy even if this person
says "I am very happy with it".
Traumatized person often say the opposite
of what they feel in order to protect themselves.
But you can tell his real feeling by his
appearance at that instance and behavior
afterward.
Repeating same stimuli from the approaching
system decrease the effect of that stimulus.
Former stimulus decreases the effect of latter
stimulus and so the effect of the approaching
system ( joy ) finally disappears. We call
this phenomenon habituation.
Repeating same stimuli from the avoidance
system ( fear ) increase the effect of the
slimulus. Former stimulus increases the effect
of latter stimulus and finally even very
weak fear stimulus changes into very strong
fear stimulus. This newly strengthened fear
stimulus makes people feel such strong fear
that these people often feel like death is
imminent but no one, even they themselves,
can not understand why they feel such a strong
fear. This newly strengthened fear stimulus
makes people have fear conditional reflex
( fecor ). Finally these people will get
trauma ( fecor ) without being aware of it.
This is the main reason why people have trauma
( fecor ) without having any deadly accident.
If people have trauma ( fecor ), their trauma
is always reacting because the souce of their
fear ( fear conditional stimulus, fecos )
always exists around them and they feel strong
fear and show many kinds of symptoms of mental
disease. This fact means that they always
have chances to learn new fear conditional
stimuli ( new fecoses ) and in fact they
have. These newly learned extended fear conditional
stimuli ( new fecoses ) make them feel severe
fear and at the same time they learn the
next other new fear conditional stimuli (
extended fear conditional reflex, new fecos
). Then they become to feel severe fear from
several sources of fear ( fecos ) around
him. Their trauma ( fecor ) always reacts against
several things ( fecoses ) around them and it becomes difficult to know why they
are showing so many symptoms of mental disease
and people around them begin to think they
are sick.
There are people who always show symptoms
from trauma ( fecor ) like anxiety, fear,
violence and symptoms of mental disease .
Their trauma ( fecor ) is always reacting
against something around them in their daily
life on account of many extended fear conditional
stimuli ( fecoses ). They look like they
are always mentally exhausted and inactive.
All they can do is only trying to avoid something
they feel fear from and what they can do
is only to protect themselves unconsciously.
We call these people disabled people. We call the way how to treat these disabled
people rules for disabled mind.
Disabled people always show many kinds of
symptoms from avoidance system in emotion,
because they are always suffering from fear
conditional stimuli ( fecoses ). They are
sensitive to the stimulus to which avoidance
system reacts and express symptoms stronger
than before. Only joy can decrease their
symptoms. Any treatment given to them cannot
improve symptoms they show even if we think
certain treatment is good for them. If we
think we find an effective treatment for
them, we should consider that they may show
"fair action" ( fair action means
they don't want to get the treatment but
they act as if they agree with the treatment
as far as they can avoid more treatmet they
don't want ).
Contrary to common sense any treatment and
any inquirement for these traumatized people
given by someone means denying these traumatized
people even if that treatment is thought
to be good and that requirement is helpful
for those traumatized people. And their avoidance
system in their emotion starts to react and
makes symptoms worse than before. Most of
traumatized people always feel fear and the
only action they can is obey from the demands
of approaching system. In sub-consciousness
traumatized people want to act from their
approaching system. Asking traumatized people
to do something is denying their action from
their approaching system and make them react
certain actions from avoidance system. If
there is not a stimulus from avoidance system
around them, their instinct from approaching
system begins to work and they are able to
overcome their problems by themselves from
their own emotional movement. This faculty
is stronger for younger people than for elder
people.
From my experience they really want to be
accepted by their relatives especially by
their parents even when they act violently
or they seem to be sick. To be accepted by
their relatives especially by their parents
gives them extaordinarily big joy and is
able to erase the fear from the trauma (
fecor ) and they can stop acting violently
or showing symptoms of mental diseases.
Traumatized people must avoid the fear stimuli
( fear conditional stimuli , fecoses ). They
must be accepted ( whatever they feel, whatever
they think, whatever they act ) by someone
especially by their mother even if they act
violently or they show symptoms of mental
diseases. They must be protected from the
fear stimuli by someone whom they rely on,
especially by their parents.
When traumatized people act violently or
they show symptoms of mental diseases, their
mothers must sympathize with them and do
physical contact with them as much as possible.
This is the best way to heal their heart
and stop acting violently and stop showing
symptoms of mental diseases. When they don't
act violently or they don't show symptoms
of mental diseases, their mothers must do
anything they want to their mothers. However
their mother should not perform more than
they want nor less that they want. At the
same time their mother must not see them,
nor speak to them unless they want to do.
Their mother must continue to keep smiling
on her face. I call the way of thinking and
the way of treating traumatized people "rules
for disabled mind".
On the Contrary, when talking about people
who have no trauma, I use the term of rules for capable mind, which is almost opposite
to rules for disabled mind. Rules for disabled
mind is different from medical knowledge
in many points. Rules for disabled mind are completely applicable
to any children but you need not apply to
normal children. Rules for disabled mind
do not always apply to traumatized adults
because of their actions from their venal
ways of thinking.
Rules for disabled mind are following ( itemized
)
(1) Traumatized person should be protected
from fear stimuli ( school, study, duty,
denial etc.) especially by his parents. Traumatized
person should live in the space without any
fear and denial. Because traumatized person
has no tolerance against fear and denial.
If time goes on when he can live without
fear stimuli, his tolerance against fear
will be getting increase.
(2) If traumatized person act violently or
exhibit pathologic symptoms, his parent should
think parents can not get rid of the source
of his fear. Parents should show their sympathy
to his fear and make skin-ship to him. In
order to settle the bad state of traumatized
person asking someone for help or medical
treatment makes the matter worse. Because
traumatized person asks only his parents
for help.
(3)Traumatized person must spend happy time
doing something pleasant like videogames,
TV. His parents must agree with the way he
does even if his parents do not want it.
Don't forget that asking something to traumatized
person makes traumatized person feel being
denied. Parents should admit traumatized
person whatever he is.
(4) Parents of traumatized person must wait
patiently for long time until traumatized
person begins to do something from his own
will in the society. It takes long time for
traumatized person to do something in the
society. This fact means parents of traumatized
person must trust him and at the same time
it is important for traumatized person to
be able to feel he is trusted by his parents.
(5) To be trusted by traumatized person parent
should 100% do everything he asks. His parents
should not watch him nor should not talk
to him unless he wants to do. His mother
should always smile on her face. His parents
should not do anything that he doesn't want
to do. His parents always follow after him.
$9 Drugs to treat traumatized people
Drugs for mental diseases are effective only
to erase the symptoms of trauma. Drugs do not seem to prevent the reaction
of trauma ( fear conditional reflex ). Taking drugs for mental diseases the symptoms
of mental diseases decrease or disappear.
Even if symptoms of trauma disappear, traumatized
people are still exposed to the stimulus
of fear. Being exposed to fear stimulus makes
reactivity to the stimulus of fear stronger
and traumatized people restart showing symptoms
of mental diseases later. On account ot this
result doctors must increase the amount of
drugs and kinds of drugs to administrate
to them. At the same time connections of
neural networks in their emotion, which react
as trauma, are getting denser and wider.
Several years later these strengthen neural
networks begin to react spontaneously or
react against very weak stimulus of fear
conditional stimulus. These traumatized people
always show many kinds of and many intensity
of symptoms of mental diseases and it becomes
impossible to spend their lives at home.
Drugs for mental diseases are effective to
erase the symptoms of trauma. Many drugs
for mental diseases also erase the spontaneous
activity from the approaching system in emotion.
Most important spontaneous activity is the
ability of recovering from the trauma ( active
movement, active effort to solve the problems
a person faces ). This effect depends on
the kind of drugs, the amount of drugs and
how long drugs are administrated. Many neural
networks in brain which are not related to
trauma do not seem to make any progressive
change if drugs for mental diseases are administrated
to traumatized people. This effect is not
bad for adults because adults already have
enough knowledge to keep social life. This
effect is not good for children because children must achieve a lot of knowledge
and experience useful for their future life,
but drugs for mental diseases prevent these
in children's brain.
Dugs for mental diseases are effective to
eliminate the symptoms of trauma. Doctors
can treat with drugs the harsh symptoms of
traumatized people. If the symptoms disappear
by drugs, traumatized people are likely to
think drugs can cure their disease. If they
have this conviction they would not avoid
the stimulus of fear any more. Traumatized
people mentally come to addict to drugs to
live their daily lives. Traumatized people
must continue to take drugs all through their
lives even if drugs they take are not effective
to eliminate their symptoms.
If traumatized people mentally come to addict
to drugs for mental diseases, they can not
stop taking drugs or decrease the amount
of drugs to take. Traumatized people is easy
to feel fear. They feel fear from small change
of their life. They hate change. Even if
they only try to stop taking drugs or decrease
the amount of drugs, they begin to feel fear
or anxiety.
$10 Understanding Trauma and Phobia
We have many big problems on children now
in Japan. One of them is HUTOKO. Children's
refusal to go to school is called HUTOKO in Japanese. Government defines HUTOKO child
is a child who is absent from school more
than 30 days continuously for the reasons
except diseases. Government says there are
more than 200,000 of HUTOKO children in these
years in Japan. It is said there are three
or four times more HUTOKO children than the
number government says. There are many students
who are absent from school for intermittently
long time and there are many students who
are receiving treatment at hospitals. These
students don't be counted in this number.
Many people think that these children dislike
studying at school or they are truants. Many
people would not think these children are
afraid of school ( feel fear when they see
or think about school ). I have been investigating
thousands of these children for long time
on each child. While observing these children
I have come up with the existence of fear
conditional reflex ( fecor ). Fear conditional
stimuli ( fecoses ) are school and anything
related to school ( buildings of school,
teachers, friends, studying and the ideas
of these stimuli ).
There are various forms of HUTOKO in Japan.
Many of the children called HUTOKO have spent
their school days without no problems until
they start refusing to go to school. Suddenly
from certain moment HUTOKO children stop
going to school because of their bad health.
Even if they say they want to go to school
and they try to go to school, still they
express somatic symptoms and they don't go
to school. If HUTOKO children are allowed
to be absent from school by their parents,
their somatic symptoms disappear quickly.
Their parents take them to a hospital but
doctors say they are not ill. Their parents
try to take them to school again by car.
They also refuse entering the school showing
many somatic symptoms and acting violently.
There are many mentor associations in Japan
for HUTOKO children. At those associations
tutors think that in order to solve this
problems HUTOKO children must have positive
relationship with their parents and tutors.
At first HUTOKO children who are receiving
treatment there can have active relationship
with tutors. However they come to refuse
receiving treatment there soon. They begin
to act violently and express symptoms of
mental diseases soon. In a few cases HUTOKO
children who are receiving treatment there
begin to go to school again. Tutors at those
mentor associations say their treatment is
best. However HUTOKO children come to refuse
going to school in a few weeks or in a few
years. We must be aware that for HUTOKO children
in japan it is already difficult to have
active relationships with their parents and
teachers.
HUTOKO children in Japan are obedient , hard
working children. They like their parents,
their school, studying and sports. They had
good relationships with adults. These children
suddenly change into opposite characters.
Suddenly they begin to hate their parents,
their school, studying and sports. Their
everyday lives are disturbed as if they have
bad character to be corrected. They hate
the relationship with adults. If someone
tries to help them to restore active relationships,
they begin to hate anything and in some case
they even try to commit suicide. Therefore
our knowledge now we have is not applicable
to these children of HUTOKO.
The treatment of HUTOKO children by their
parents makes their aspects quite different.
If their parents allow their absence from
school, they come to recover their activity
to spend their time at home and some of them
come to go back to school without any trouble
and finally they become active members of
the society. But in many cases of HUTOKO
children their parents let them go to school.
Then they act violently or show many kinds
of mental diseases. In some cases if their
parents let them go to school, they act as
if there were nothing trouble in their school
to disturb them and they go to school again.
In these cases they continue going to school
for only several days or several years and
after these days they refuse going to school
again and come to act more violently and
express more severe symptoms of mental diseases
than before. Any tutors as well as their
parent are not able to manage them any more.
Then people around them surely think their
character must be corrected or they must
be treated by doctors.
Observing these HUTOKO children we can find
that they react reflectively against school
( both building and idea ) and they reflectively
and severely exhibit somatic symptoms. So
long as their parents let them go to school,
their refusal to go to school becomes stronger
and their somatic symptoms become stronger.
We can identify this phenomenon as conditioned
and reflective response to refuse the school
if I observe the reaction of the children
without a preconception. This phenomenon
is the fear conditional reflex ( fecor )
itself and its fear conditional stimulus
( fecos ) is school.
Some of the parents who have HUTOKO children
know that their children exhibit fear when
parents make their children go to school
but they don't know that school is the source
of fear for their children. For these parents
the mental reaction of their HUTOKO children
means phobia ( school-phobia ) but not trauma
( fecor ). Their parents try to find the
source of fear for children in the school
and resolve the problems of their children.
Most of the parents who have HUTOKO children
are convinced that their children have certain
diseases and their children don't go to school
from their diseases. They apt to take their
children to doctor's and let their children
have medical treatment. For these parents
the mental reaction of their HUTOKO children
means trauma ( fecor ) but not phobia, because
they don't know the reasons why their children
feel fear. Without any doubt they continue
to believe that their children have mental
diseases.
